Who we are

Founded in 1998, Symptai Consulting Ltd is an IT Advisory and Assurance Company and tremendously experienced in delivering advisory and assurance services.

We have offices in Kingston, Jamaica, and Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. We have contributed greatly to improving the perception of auditors and control professionals in the Caribbean. This has resulted in auditors with increased efficiency and effectiveness through the introduction of new data analysis techniques and concepts, and automating their control functions.

Symptai possess an enviable track record; performing highly technical information systems audits for clients over the past eighteen (18) years. We also provide mentoring to government ministries and agencies. For the years the company has delivered software and lecturers to dominant universities in Jamaica.

We firmly believe that one of the most effective approaches to operating controls within business processes is to automate the monitoring process as much as possible. In this regard Symptai has become the leading exclusive channel partner in the Caribbean region to implement the CaseWare™ Monitor solution. CaseWare™ Monitor has been successfully implemented in territories such as Jamaica, Barbados and the Cayman islands. It monitors key business processes in Insurance, Banking, Utilities and Manufacturing industries.

Founded in 1998 by Andrew Simpson, Symptai Consulting is a leading IT Security, Audit and Controls Monitoring firm in the Caribbean with offices in Kingston, Jamaica and Port of Spain, Trinidad.

In October 2006, we became regional partner for CaseWare Monitor formerly SymSure.

CaseWare is a revolutionary concept that will allow business professionals to continuously monitor controls within their business and resolve them in a structured expedited manner.

In March 2010 SymSure was publised in the Gartner Magic Quadrant as one of the 8 best Continuous Controls Monitoring Solutions in the world.

In May 2010 SymSure Limited was acquired by CaseWare IDEA and renamed CaseWare Monitor and a new entity created named CaseWare RCM.

This strategic move has undoubtedly facilitated continuous innovation in the solution ranging from specialised solutions such as Anti Money Laundering Systems to Continuous Auditing and controls monitoring for all industries and any business process.

Symptai begins further expansions into the regional market with huge aqusitions of new eastern Caribbean clients.

While our client retention rates continue to remain very impressive with an annual software renewal rate of over 95%.

Andrew Simpson, MBA, B.S.c., CISA

Andrew Simpson was the first fully qualified Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) in Jamaica (1995). He also has a MBA in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales and Manchester Business School and B.Sc. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of West Indies.

Marlon Cooper, B.Sc., CISA, CRISC

Managing Director

Marlon Cooper is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls and holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (Honours) from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. He has twenty (20) years’ experience in Internal and IT Auditing.

Marlon has overall responsibility for business direction and operations at Symptai Consulting Limited. He supports the thrust to implement systems that automatically and continuously monitor controls within business processes and provided high level oversight of the Information Security and Information Systems Audit advisory services.

Marlon has been involved in a wide range of projects ranging from project reviews, security and audit assessments, AML and other solutions implementations and application and process reviews. He has also worked with US-Based companies in their Sarbanes-Oxley testing. As a Certified ACL Instructor, he has trained over 500 audit and control professionals across the Caribbean region in data analysis, interrogation and audit techniques.

Prior to charting his career at Symptai, Marlon worked for the national airline, Air Jamaica Limited. He was responsible for reviewing and developing internal controls for adequacy and effectiveness, and for conducting audits at field offices, related companies and suppliers in the Caribbean, the United States and Europe.

Andrew Nooks holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of the West Indies and certifications from industry leading organizations such as ISACA, (ISC)2, ITIL, PCI-DSS and BSI. Certifications include:

Alicia Perez B.Sc, CISA

Director for IT Audit

Alicia is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, and holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies. With over ten (10) years in the field of business assurance and IT Audit Alicia speaks from a place of technical competence and hands on experience; she has been integrally involved in a wide range of projects at varying degrees of complexity and has interacted with audit minds in almost every industry. Alicia has worked on a number of Major IT audit and business process assurance assignment including:

  • Process improvement and Data Quality Assurance using proprietary tools;
  • IT General Controls Reviews;
  • IT Solution Selections;

Alka Jain, M.Sc, FCCA, CISA, PMP

Director for Business Assurance

Alka Jain holds M.Sc. degrees in Computer Based Management Information Systems from the University of the West Indies and Operational Research from the University of Delhi, India. She is a Certified Chartered Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Oracle Certified Professional in Financial Applications and a Certified Project Management Professional. She also holds a certification in IT Infrastructure Library’s IT Service Management Foundation, version 3.

She has over fifteen years of professional experience in the fields of Information Technology, Accounting and Management across varied sectors including government, financial, utilities, retail and distribution. Her responsibilities have included providing implementation, support and training services for Oracle Financials, CaseWare™ Monitor, SAP Business One and Microsoft Dynamics Navision.

Alka brings extensive project management skills and experience that has enhanced the overall value of projects delivered by Symptai Consulting Limited. Alka joined Symptai consulting in May 2009 and is responsible for Consulting Services in our Business Assurance Services division. She has been streamlining our consulting approaches and methodologies to enterprise risk and control assessments and delivering continuous monitoring solutions to clients throughout the region.Alka has worked on a number of Business Process Assurance assignments including:

  • Managing the implementation of CaseWare™ Monitor, continuous monitoring solutions at a leading insurance company to manage risks in its claims business process.
  • Conduction process reviews to identify risks and controls across business processes such as purchase to pay, order to cash, branch operations across varied industries.

  • Conducting a review of payables and receivables at a manufacturing company and provided action plans to resolve issues relating to the data clean-up, process changes, user training and periodic monitoring strategies.
